The familiar figure of William Sheen with pipe, bicycle and a pack under his arm on his way to and from the hospital will be seen no more. He has retired from the rigorous routine of hospital staff life after 18 years of service as caretaker at the local institution, completing his duties Saturday night. He will now be free to come and go as he pleases and enjoy his well earned permanent vacation.

The following is written in response to Ken Waddell’s editorial published on Friday, April 27, 2018 in the Neepawa Banner & Press and Rivers Banner. About 93 per cent of Manitobans have easy access to a residential recycling program funded by Multi‐Material Stewardship Manitoba Inc. (MMSM), an industry‐funded, not‐for‐profit organization. MMSM represents stewards — brand owners, producers, distributors and manufacturers — who pay fees to help cover the costs of recycling their products and packaging. MMSM is not a government agency.

Manitoba’s best coaches were recently recognized for their leadership and a familiar local name was amongst those that were honoured. John Csversko of Neepawa recently received the Global News Active for Life Award at the 2018 Coaching Manitoba Impact Awards in Winnipeg. Csversko was recognized for his dedication and contributions to the sport of curling.

My heart is troubled. We have lost many lives this past month through accidents and willful destruction. And with many others I say “why?” Young people’s lives were cut short. Moms and Dads lost part of their family. It is heartbreaking. Some are still in hospital and may be scarred for life.
