Someone showed me some pictures of a recent sunset. The flaming red and fiery orange melted over in a bright yellow. It was spectacular. The sunsets on the prairies are beautiful. I could stop on the side of road and just watch this mighty ball disappear behind the far horizon. It makes me stop and think “Be still, and know that I am God” (Psalm 46:10).

As I get older, I find that it takes considerably longer to write a column, prepare a sermon, write a letter or decide what to say in a greeting card. I spend much more time thinking before I ever sit down at my desk and actually begin to put words on paper. My goal is simple—I want my writing to be easily understood and my sermons to be given in ways that reflect the love, acceptance and forgiveness God offers to all who believe in Him. I would like to think that this is a sign of wisdom that comes with age; but I am sure there will be some who might want to question that. The numbers suggest that the 2017-2018 MJHL regular season was a step in the right direction for the Neepawa Natives. Over the course of 60 games, the club scored 47 more goals, than they’d accumulated in the previous year (215 vs. 173). They also generated more wins (25 vs. 21) and increased their points total in the league standings by six (54 pts. vs 48 pts.). By all these measures, the 2017-2018 MJHL regular season was more successful than 2016-2017. So why doesn’t it feel that way?

My grandson is partial to maraschino cherries and chocolate chips. This is a great way to give him his loves in one recipe. If you are sending these to school, substitute the almonds with coconut as most local schools are nut free, but coconut is allowed.
