Whirlpool Lake closed to public

To ensure the ongoing protection of Riding Mountain National Park from invasive zebra mussels, Parks Canada is closing Whirlpool Lake and the campground area until further notice as a precautionary measure. This area closure includes a prohibition of all watercraft (canoes, kayaks, etc.) on Whirlpool Lake.

Although wheelchair accessibility is important, accessibility for people experiencing visual impairment is equally important. The thought of not having the ability to drive to the Co-op grocery store, watch the Neepawa Natives hockey game, or see the face of a loved one is not in the forefront of our minds on a daily basis.

Foundations raise $890,000+ in 24 hours

Thanks to the generosity of Manitobans, community foundations across our province raised an incredible $893,448.89 during this year’s 24-Hour Giving Challenge, once again demonstrating why we’re the most generous province in Canada. During the 24-Hour Giving Challenge, The Winnipeg Foundation (TWF) stretched each $5 gift made to community foundations with $1 (to a maximum of $2,000 per foundation).

On Saturday, Dec. 2 the life of Bryce Waldon was snatched from this earth. The 33-year-old was born, raised and educated on a farm near Rapid City. As of early morning Wednesday, Dec. 13 there were 75 posts on Brockie Donovan’s tribute page made for his family. Several of those mentioned his big smile and kind heart, a compassionate man and the go-to guy for assistance on any project. What makes the situation more tragic is the abrupt halt to such an exciting part of life’s journey.
